To Real STL Staff, players, and families,

I’m excited to begin coaching with Real STL. Soccer has always been a part of my life both in coaching and playing. The game has taught me a lot, presented me with opportunities, introduced me to life-long friends, and most of all provided me with a positive and fun outlet for self-expression. Having the chance to guide youngsters as they develop their skills is an opportunity I’m ready to take on.

My most recent coaching experience is at the high school level. This past season (2017-2018 school year) I obtained the varsity head coach position at Winfield high school. The year prior, (2016-2017 school year) I was hired on as the assistant coach. The last two seasons have been educational both in my understanding of the game and my interaction with youth players.

Prior to coaching at Winfield, I have held various coaching positions of varying ages. During my senior year at William Woods University (2010) I was offered an opportunity to work with U-12 boys in the Columbia Pride program. After graduating, obtaining a coaching license was the next goal. I obtained my ‘D’ level coaching license shortly after finishing college. I was fortunate enough to be offered a volunteer assistant coach position at Fort Zumwalt North for a season of boys’ soccer and put my license to use. After I obtained a position instructing physical education, coaching took a back seat to my teaching career. While coaching was not the main focus during this time I was able to do a few private, small group sessions at a local sports complex in St. Peters.

I grew up playing club soccer in St. Louis. Playing throughout high school earned me an opportunity to play at the collegiate level. While obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education I played four years of soccer at William Woods University. I continue to play when I can in recreational leagues with great friends I’ve met through soccer over the years.

I look forward to meeting the players, coaches, and families of Real STL,

Zack Johnson
